Offer Description
The Department of Atmospheric Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, Prague (Czech Republic) wishes to fill one full-time postdoc position in the field of Meteorology and Climatology with a focus on Global Climate-Chemistry Modelling using Modular Earth Submodel System (MESSy; https://messy-interface.org/) aiming at i) implementing the model framework on department HPC facilities, ii) testing the model performance and model options, iii) developing physical parameterizations for gravity waves and iv) investigating of geoengineering strategies.
Position available from April 1st 2024 and is for a 3 year period with possible extensions up to 9 years in total.
Gross monthly salary (depending on previous eligible experience) starting at 70.000 CZK. The candidate will join the climate and chemistry modelling teams of the department involved in two projects aiming at investigating global wave dynamics (project GACR No. 23-04921M) and global changes of both climate and chemistry (Project P JAC “Natural and anthropogenic geohazards” no. CZ.02.01.01/00/22_008/0004605). The candidate will partly contribute also to the HORIZON-CL5-2021-D1-01 Project FOCI "NON-CO2 FORCERS AND THEIR CLIMATE, WEATHER, AIR QUALITY AND HEALTH IMPACTS" No. 101056783.
We are looking for a person with a strong background in atmospheric physics, meteorology and climatology, with rich experience in global scale climate/chemistry modelling. Tasks will in general include implementing the model framework on the department HPC facilities, designing and running simulations, post-processing and analyzing model results, presenting analyses at conferences and publishing regularly in peer-reviewed journals.
In addition to a relevant educational background, the candidate is expected to have a good working knowledge of UNIX-based operating systems, good programming skills in one or more languages (Python, Fortran, UNIX shell) and knowledge of basic statistical techniques.

Data processing skills using Python
Good knowledge of statistics

Strong publication record in the fields highlighted above as well as international orientation and recognition
Willingness and ability to lead own research
Experience in the acquisition, management and implementation of research projects
