Offer Description
Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is one of the largest universities in Germany. Thanks to its location in the Rhine-Main science region, the university can unfold to its full potential and showcase its innovative power and dynamism. Its status as a comprehensive university allows for multidisciplinary learning and teaching and has great potential for interna-tionally renowned, interdisciplinary research. Almost all of its institutes are located on a single campus close to the Mainz city center – creating a lively academic culture for researchers, teaching staff, and students from every continent.
The Faculty of Catholic Theology, part of the Faculty of Catholic Theology and Protestant Theology, invites applications for the position of
University Professor for Christian Anthropology and Social Ethics
to be filled at the earliest possible date.
Salary grade W 3 LBesG | Civil Servant (tenured)
Tasks and Expectations:
We are looking for an excellent academic candidate to represent the Christian Anthropology and Social Ethics professorship in its full scope in research and teaching. The successful candidate will exhibit a distinctive social ethics research profile, enabling them to contribute well-founded academic input regarding current social challeng-es. Applicants should have proven expertise in individual fields of the subject.
Teaching in the various Catholic Theology degree pro-grams is to be carried out in German; a readiness to offer English-language courses is desirable. We expect themat-ically open, methodically diverse, and interdisciplinary courses to be offered as well as the willingness to contrib-ute to the development of innovative forms of teaching and learning. Furthermore, the professorship involves teaching in the field of philosophy within the context of theological studies and supplies courses for other faculties (currently for Law, Management and Economics).
The capacity for inner-faculty and ecumenical cooperation within Faculty 01 as well as interdisciplinary collaboration, such as in multidisciplinary research associations at JGU and in the Rhine-Main University alliance, is indispensable. Experience in acquiring third-party funding for research projects is also advantageous. In addition, the department is looking for someone who is prepared to participate in public debate in the context of their expertise in social ethics; the transfer and communication of knowledge is important to the department. JGU values international connections and visibility (e.g., through possible collabora-tion in the university alliance FORTHEM) and therefore also digital literacy.
Additionally, participation in academic self-administration is expected as part of the professorship in addition to the active promotion of young researchers.
