Offer Description
Candidate for the position of assistant (post-doc) at the Department of Neurobiology, Maj Institute of Pharmacology Polish Academy of Sciences (further called Institute or IP PAS).
KEYWORDS: depression, receptor dimerization, psychedelics.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carrying out the behavioural procedures planned in the project in a model of chronic unpredictable mild stress in mice;
- Performing behavioral tests for the assessment of antidepressant-like and anxiolytic-like behaviours;
- Cell culture and developing cell lines expressing selected GPCRs;
- Study of physical (dimerization) and functional (signaling cross-talk) interactions between selected GPCRs in cellular models expressing the tested receptors (in vitro) and in tissue (ex vivo);
- Conducting experiments using biochemical (Western blot, ELISA) and molecular methods (preparation of bacterial and viral vectors, RT-PCR);
- Analysis of research results, including statistical analysis;
- Data processing and preparation of manuscripts for publication and presentation of the obtained results during scientific conferences;
- Strict adherence to the code of ethics of Polish Academy of Sciences employee;
- Adherence to rules and regulations in force at the IP PAS.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment in the project based on an full-time employment contract for a period of

A candidate for the position of an assistant (post-doc) should meet the following conditions:
- PhD in biological or medical sciences obtained not earlier than 7 years before the year of employment in the project. This period does not include breaks related to maternity leave, additional maternity leave, leave on the terms of maternity leave, additional leave on the terms of maternity leave, paternity leave, parental leave granted on the terms specified in the provisions of the Labor Code or receiving a sickness benefit or a rehabilitation benefit due to incapacity for work, including due to an illness requiring rehabilitation. For women, the indicated 7-year period may be extended by 18 months for each born or adopted child. A woman can choose a more favorable way to indicate breaks in her research career;
- Completed long-term (minimum 2 years) research internship in a foreign unit;
- Knowledge in neurobiology and pharmacology, including the pharmacology of G protein receptors (GPCRs). Knowledge of the role of the serotonin and glutamatergic systems
in the pathophysiology of mental illnesses is welcome; - At least several years of experience in working in a behavioural, cellular and biochemical laboratory, confirmed in the form of scientific publications in the field of psychopharmacology (minimum 5 publications in which the Candidate is the first author);
- Experience in managing and conducting research projects at the level of planning and implementation of research as well as analysis and publication of results in international journals with a high impact factor;
- Experience in working with animals as well as completed and certified PolLASA training
(or an equivalent document) for those planning and performing procedures and experiments with the use of laboratory animals and killing animals used in procedures in accordance with the Act on the protection of animals used for scientific and educational purposes (as in Journal of Laws of 2023, item 465); - Experience in working with GMM and GMO material;
- Experience in working with eukaryotic cells, cell transfection and molecular cloning techniques, including obtaining fusion proteins;
- Experience in determining second messengers of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs);
- Practical ability to use RT-PCR, ELISA, Western blot, and pull-down techniques, fluorescence microscopy including confocal microscopy and flow cytometry;
- Ability to work in a team and independently;
- In the event of winning the competition and starting work in the project, the candidate may not receive any other remuneration from the funds awarded under direct costs under NCN calls, as well as be employed under another contract of employment;
- English proficiency in speech and writing;
- Impeccable ethical attitude.
