Offer Description
A Research Fellowship (BI) (Reference REQUIMTE 2024-01) on the project CleanH2O - 2022.03009.PTDC – “Membranas líquidas de suporte á base de solventes eutécticos para remoção de contaminantes emergentes de águas superficiais - efluentes de estações de tratamento de águas residuais e águas fluviais, supported by national funds by FCT / MCTES, is available at REQUIMTE.
Main research field: Chemistry
Admission requirements: Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Science, Bioengineering, Chemistry engineering, Environmental engineering or Chemistry, enrollment in a doctoral program or enrollment/attendance of a non-degree course taught by a higher education institution in conjunction with an R&D unit in Chemistry areas. Experience in analytical chemistry.
In case the Master degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007 of October 12th, and all formalities established therein must be complied with at the signature of Fellowship contract.
Preferred requirements: Immediate availability (indicated in the motivation letter) and Good academic curricular performance in the field of the chemical sciences (ETCs of A).
Working plan:
1- Study of the incidence of emerging contaminants in effluents from WWTPs and rivers in the North of Portugal using chromatography methods with tandem mass spectrometry;
2- Development of a sustainable and economical technology using a liquid membrane supported by “deep eutectic solvents” (DES) for the removal of relevant emerging contaminants from effluents from water treatment plants and surface waters.
Applicable Legislation: The grant is awarded under the Research Fellowship Holder Statute, approved by Law nº 40/2004, of August 18th, and updated by Law decree DL 123/2019, of August 28th, and the Regulation for Studentships and Fellowships of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (https://former.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamentos.phtml.pt).
Work Place: The work will be conducted at Laboratory of Bromatology and Hydrology – Faculty of Pharmacy – Porto University, under the supervision of the PhD Senior Researcher Sara Cunha
Duration: The fellowship will have duration of 3 months, possibly renewable for equal periods for up to 6 months, starting on February of 2024
Monthly stipend:
Monthly stipend is €1.199,64 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_2023.pdf). Payment will be made by bank transfer monthly. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.
Selection criteria:
Curricular evaluation (CE) and selection interview (E) to the first 2 candidates with the best classification in the CE.
The final classification will be obtained by the following formula: 0.8 x CE + 0.2x E, on a scale of 0 to 20 points.
The evaluation factors of curriculum evaluation (CE) are:
1. Academic background, particularly in the Chemical sciences (50%);
2. Experience in analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis, particularly chromatography (30%)
3. Motivation letter (20%);
The evaluation factors of the selection interview (E), if it is to be carried out, will be:
1. Communication and verbal expression skills on topics related to the scientific area of the work plan (70%)
2. Personal characteristics necessary for teamwork (30%);
The jury reserves the right not to select any candidate if the final score is less than 50%.
