Offer Description

The Reimagining Teachers and Teacher Education for Our Futures conference will explore the future of the teaching profession and teachers’ work, and the crucial role that teachers have in shaping the critical, transversal skills that are necessary for our futures as outlined in the seminal report by The UNESCO International Commission on the Futures of Education. The Conference will gather researchers, teacher educators, teachers, representatives of civil organizations, policy makers and all actors involved in building a sustainable society through education. The Conference is organized and hosted by the Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Helsinki and its UNESCO Chairs professor Hannele Niemi and professor Arto Kallioniemi in collaboration with the UNITWIN UNESCO network on Teacher Education for Social Justice and Diversity and The Global Innovation Network for Teaching and Learning GINTL. We are looking for a TRAINEE to assist in organizing an international conference at the Faculty of Educational Sciences in June 2024.

The duration of a traineeship is from 1 March to 30 June 2024 (four months) of part-time (50%) work, leaving time for studies as well. The salary is €700 per month for a part-time (50%) trainee.

The conference trainee’s main task is to participate in the work of the organizing committee of the Reimagining Teachers and Teacher Education for Our Futures conference which will be held at the City Centre campus of the University of Helsinki on 18-20 June 2024.

Main tasks of the trainee:  

  • Assisting the conference organising committee in planning and organising the conference
  • Administrative and organisatorial tasks related to the conference, e. g. communications & correspondence, updating the website, meeting arrangements
  • Any other conference duties as mutually agreed
  • The tasks may also include other tasks relating to international activities at the Faculty of educational sciences.

The conference trainee will mainly work on-site at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, although some duties can also be carried out as remote work (in Finland), if the trainee wishes. The conference will require on-site participation.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking a trainee with good organizing skills, an open mind and an interest in learning. You have a proactive way of working and good communication and teamwork skills. Knowledge of Finnish and/or Swedish is an asset, but not a requirement for the task.

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Studies in education or other relevant fields, and interest in the conference themes and education in a global context.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently •    Good digital skills and interest to improve them
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

The position is considered to be best suited for master level students, but also bachelor level students at a mature stage in their studies can be considered.
