Principal Anatomist and Cox Chair of Anatomy
CAHID Full-Time/ Permanent Grade 10 (from £66,857)
The School of Science and Engineering delivers research and teaching across Anatomy & Human Identification, Computing, Engineering (Biomedical, Civil, and Mechanical & Electronic), Forensic Sciences, Mathematics and Physics.
The School benefits from superb research infrastructure and substantial opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration through which we deliver impactful knowledge-transfer and translational activities with industries (local and global) and with social ecosystems, including the judiciary and, through assistive technology, people with disabilities and the elderly population.
The Principal Anatomist and Cox Chair of Anatomy will be a key appointment for the University, providing strategic leadership for the discipline. The Cox Chair may also act as Director of the Centre for Human Identification (CAHID) and we would welcome discussions with candidates regarding this, complementary role.
Your priorities will include:
- Provide strategic direction and inspirational leadership of anatomy teaching and scholarship, research, and knowledge exchange.
- Take overall responsibility for liaising with His Majesty's Inspector of Anatomy and the relevant Scottish Government Directorates to ensure compliance with all aspects of anatomical legislation across the University, including all licensed areas and all licensed teachers of anatomy
- Develop new, and nurture existing, relationships with our national and international partners in teaching, research and knowledge exchange
- Develop, plan, lead and deliver high-quality education activities, including excellent supervision of undergraduate and MSc students
- Contribute to research related activities, such as delivering keynote presentations at conferences and supervising PhD students
Who we're looking for:
- PhD or equivalent qualification in anatomical sciences or related area
- Clear evidence of leadership in the areas of anatomical legislation and compliance
- A proven ability to produce high-quality international research/scholarship and/or knowledge exchange outputs
- A well-established reputation amongst peers both nationally and internationally
- Clear evidence of high-level leadership and management contributions, including the ability to motivate people and nurture a collegial, stimulating working environment where people can flourish.
