MITE aims to determine whether varroa populations in Portugal carry alleles that confer resistance to pyrethroids and amitraz and to modernize the beekeeping sector by developing innovative molecular tools that can be easily used in integrated pest management against varroosis and concurrently against associated viruses such as DWV.
This grant will have a duration of 12 months (with the possibility of renewal up to 24 months).
The fellow will benefit fromagrant of 1.199,64€ as per the table of remuneration of FCT,I.P.. 2) Primer development;
3) Extraction of Varroa destructor DNA;
4) Analysis of sequences obtained by Sanger sequencing;
5) Development of molecular tools to detect mutations associated with the resistance of V.
destructor to pyrethroids and amitraz.
5) Data analysis;
6) Preparation of technical-scientific documents.
Grant Goals:
To contribute to the MITE project, which aims to verify whether there are varroa populations in Portugal that carry the alleles that confer resistance to pyrethroids and amitraz, and if so, to study their geographical distribution. It also aims to modernize the beekeeping sector by developing innovative molecular tools that can be tools that can be easily used in the integrated fight against varroasis and concomitantly against associated viruses such as DWV.
