Role Description:
This full-time on-site Research Fellowship at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, located in Leganés, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research within the Aeroelastic and Structural Design Lab (ASD Lab).
The Research Fellowship will:
- Advance and/or support multidisciplinary optimization research activities for unconventional aircraft optimization, aero-structural, and aeroelastic optimization.
- Lead and/or support the application of artificial intelligence algorithms to MDO problems.
- Support the manufacturing of an aeroelastic flying demonstrator.
- Coordinate and mentor BS and MS thesis students, supervise doctoral group members.
- Contribute to dissemination by writing conference and journal papers.
- Support business development through the submission of research proposals.
These activities will be carried out within the framework of recently awarded research projects TIFON and CETACEO, featuring collaborations with Airbus Defence, Navantia, and other industrial-academic consortia, and international projects financed by the European Commission (Horizon Europe http://indigo-sustainableaviation.eu/, Clean Aviation).
Qualifications:
- Hold a PhD with demonstrated experience in aeroelasticity, MDO, aircraft design, and Machine Learning.
- Deal independently and proactively with scientific and engineering challenges.
- Be self-motivated and capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Possess programming skills (e.g., Python).
- Ideally, have experience in experimental activities such as manufacturing or testing of flying platforms.
- Proficiency in English (both written and oral) is required; knowledge of Spanish or a willingness to learn is desirable.
Funding and Timing:
- 32.000€ – 40.000€ p.a./year, based on assessment of merit.
- 2 years (extendable to 3)
