Job Title: Research Assistant in Health Economics (1.0 FTE) (iPASTAR Collaborative Doctoral Award (CDA) Programme)

Department: School of Population Health, RCSI Dublin

Reporting to: iPASTAR Directors (Prof. David Williams / Frances Horgan) and Professor Jan Sorensen, Healthcare Outcomes Research Centre

Location: Beaux Lane House, RCSI

Contract/Duration: Specified purpose contract for 1 year (Feb 2024 – Jan 2025)

Remuneration: IUA research assistant level 1 (October 2023 pay scale) up to point 13 (dependent upon experience)

Summary of Post

The iPASTAR programme has a 1-year health economics research assistant position at RCSI. The successful candidate will be employed on a full-time basis with two main goals: 1) to assist the write up and dissemination of health economics iPASTAR outputs; 2) assist with the completion of health economics deliverables on three PhD research projects with model-based economic evaluation to assess the cost-effectiveness of two or more hypothetical interventions (acute, transition, and lifestyle interventions) relating to stroke care pathways. The position is based in the School of Population Health, RCSI, Dublin 2, but remote working may be considered.

Specifically, the duties of the post are:

  • Construct model-based work exploring the costs and quality of life associated with living in the community in the first five years post stroke and construct a model-based economic evaluation to assess the cost-effectiveness of two or more hypothetical interventions relating to stroke care pathways.
  • Co-ordination of own day-to-day work to support the iPASTAR programme and reporting.
  • Facilitating communication and dissemination of information required, including conference presentations, authored peer-reviewed articles, etc.
  • Assist with drafting grant applications for forthcoming relevant grant calls.
  • Liaising with the Principal Investigator/s, scholars on matters relating to the model-based work.
  • Undertaking duties assigned by the Principal Investigator or his/her nominee.

Qualifications – (Essential):

  • An MSc or equivalent in health economics, health services research, data science or a related discipline.

Knowledge & Experience – (Essential):

  • Excellent database management and health economics quantitative analysis skills.
  • Evidence of the ability to work independently and efficiently, including excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal, report writing and IT skills

Knowledge & Experience (Desirable):

  • A thorough knowledge of model-based health economics analysis, statistical analysis using Stata, R or equivalent.
  • Experience of analysing health and quality of life scales.
  • Project management experience.
  • Track record in scientific publication and dissemination.
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary research team.
  • Robust knowledge of quantitative research methods, design and data analysis.
