Offer Description
The Department of Computer Systems of Tallinn University of Technology invites applications to fill in the associate professor position (non-tenure, teaching track) in the field of Computer Systems. The goals of the position are the following: conducting and organizing teaching at different levels of higher education in the field of Computer Systems and directing cross-disciplinary cooperation. Conducting and organizing research and development activities and other related activities.
Job description:
- professional study, research, and development activities in the field of computer systems in a balanced volume corresponding to the organization of the academic career;
- supervising doctoral students, master's students, and bachelor's students in conducting independent research;
- conducting teaching and educational development activities at a modern methodological and educational technological level at different levels of higher education in the field of computer systems;
- organization of academic learning and learning development activities and responsibility for this level in one's specialty;
- research and development activities in their field and its organization;
- development of cooperation with other research and development institutions and companies;
- publication of research and development results; work as an expert in own field;
- expected fields of research and development: microelectronics, embedded systems, energy efficiency, machine learning;
- consulting the colleagues and mentorship.
Accompanying tasks: participation in the work of national and international professional decision-making bodies and committees; cooperation with the editorial boards of scientific journals, reviewing research articles; popularisation of the areas of study and research in the field, incl. publishing opinion pieces or popular science articles; participating in continuous education training processes in the field; participating in the work of the university’s decision-making bodies and committees, filling a management post.

We are looking for a top specialist, who has the knowledge and skills in the following fields:
- a doctoral degree in a research field related to the field of activity;
- scientific publications in the volume of at least two doctoral theses, h-index ≥6, high-level publication (focus Q1-Q2);
- previous experience in applying for funding or executing a project or contract;
- at least one doctoral thesis defended under supervision and 1500 h of successfully supervised graduation theses of first and second level in total;
- at least 10 years of teaching experience at various levels of higher education, author or compiler-editor of a higher education textbook or equivalent teaching tool, within the last 5 years included among the nominees for teacher of the year (or an equivalent assessment of the quality of teaching) and completed pedagogical studies of at least 24 ECTS;
- participation in the activities of international professional or scientific organizations and networks (including business) or participation in working groups influencing the development of the university or holding leading positions in the university;
- publication of opinion or popular scientific articles, an active and well-known speaker in his/her field, conducting further training, recognition outside the university in the field of science, education, culture and innovation or an invited speaker at the events of scientific or other organizations.

The Department of Computer Systems is a structural unit of the School of IT, dealing with teaching, research, and development activities. The department was established on 1 January 2017 by merging the former Department of Computer Engineering, the Centre for Biorobotics and the Control Systems Research Laboratory of the Department of Computer Control. The department focuses on designing secure, dependable, and intelligent computer systems. The lecturers and researchers of the department are engaged in teaching at all three levels of higher education and the courses taught are available in several bachelor and master level programmes of the School of IT and the School of Engineering.
