Offer Description

A PhD studentship is open at Dr. Pascal Mamassian’s lab, École Normale Supérieure, Paris, France and Dr. Ruth van Holst’s lab at Amsterdam University Medical Centers, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This unique opportunity involves research in decision-making and confidence within compulsive disorders. The student will be involved in designing novel experimental paradigms, running behavioural tests on clinical patients and the general population, and improving existing computational models to account for the results. This position is part of “CODE”, a Europe-wide collaborative project on perceptual decision making and metacognition that involves eight other laboratories throughout Europe.

Dr. Mamassian’s lab is at the forefront of perception studies, using various methods, including behavioral psychophysics, brain imaging, and Bayesian modeling. Dr. van Holst's lab at the Department of Psychiatry at the Amsterdam University Medical Centers – University of Amsterdam offers a platform for applying cutting-edge decision-confidence knowledge to understand compulsive disorders like OCD and gambling disorder.

Specific Requirements

The clinical project relevance calls for strong interpersonal skills, Dutch language proficiency (or willingness to learn), and an interest in working with compulsive disorders. Prior experience in neurocognitive testing, computational modeling, or data analysis is advantageous.

The PhD project starts in Paris, focusing on task and method development, followed by application in Amsterdam, studying compulsive disorders.

Eligibility criteria

Eligibility requires adherence to the Marie Curie Actions mobility rule, which holds that they have spent no more than 12 months of the past 3 years in France. Financial assistance for relocation to France and the Netherlands is provided.
