Offer Description
Work Plan:
The work plan will be multidisciplinary and aims to achieve the following objectives: • Survey existing analog games for people with different handicaps. • Conduct a systematic review of the accessibility of various existing solutions for people with different handicaps, including intellectual disabilities. • Assist in the design and construction of devices (including games) for patients with different handicaps in various clinical settings. • Conduct experimental tests of the developed prototypes on individuals without associated pathology in a laboratory setting and make necessary adjustments. • Perform tests of the developed prototypes on individuals with different handicaps in various clinical contexts and apply usability tests.
Workplace: The work will be carried out at the Instrumentation, Biomedical Engineering and Radiation Physics Laboratory of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa under the scientific guidance of Professor Claúdia Regina Pereira Quaresma and Professor Maria Micaela Fonseca, with NOVA.id being the contracting entity. Fellowship duration: The scholarship will have a duration of 12 months, starting on January, 2024. with the possibility of renewal up to the end of the project and in accordance with the provisions of Regulation of Research Fellowships from the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P (as stated and available at: http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt).

Applications must be formalized, obligatorily, by sending the following documents:

• Degree certificate*
• Motivation letter and additional documents that could be relevant
• Proof of enrollment in a doctoral program or in a course that does not lead to an academic degree at a higher education institution** (or a declaration on honor by the candidate that he or she meets the requirements to enroll in a doctoral program or in a training course).
* In case of foreign academic degrees, and to guarantee the application of the principle of equal treatment to applicants with national and foreign academic degrees, it is mandatory to submit the recognition of such degrees and the conversion of the respective final grade to the portuguese grading scale.
** In the case of candidates with a master's degree who are enrolled in a course that does not confer an academic degree, the scholarship can only be awarded if the candidate does not exceed, with the conclusion of the scholarship contract in question, including the renewals provided for in this notice, an accumulated period of two years, consecutive or interpolated, in this type of scholarship.

Recipients profile/category:
Mandatory requirements:
Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field. Enrollment in a PhD in the scientific field of Biomedicine or enrollment in a non-degree course.
Candidates should have experience in the development of devices applied in a clinical context and/or their testing in laboratory and clinical settings. They should also possess knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics.
For candidates enrolled in non-degree-conferring courses, the scholarship can only be awarded to those who do not exceed, with the signing of the scholarship contract in question, including the renewals stipulated in the notice, an accumulated period of two years in this type of scholarship, whether consecutive or interpolated. Therefore, a declaration of commitment from the candidate confirming compliance with this requirement must be submitted.
Enrollment in a non-degree-conferring course will only be verified at the time of contracting, not at the time of application.
Preferential factors: English language proficiency and a demonstrated ability in communication, teamwork, and the publication of scientific articles.

Additional Information
Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The amount of the grant corresponds to €1 199,64, based on the table of values of the grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country, with payment made monthly by bank transfer.
Selection criteria:
The selection methods to be used are as follows:
• Criterion A - Quality of academic background, including the average of the Integrated Master's degree and grades in fundamental subjects for project development (maximum score of 30 points)
• Criterion B - Experience in modeling support devices (maximum score of 30 points)
• Criterion C - Experience in testing new technologies in laboratory and clinical settings (maximum score of 30 points)
• Criterion D - Publications and/or previous experience in scientific research (maximum score of 10 points)
Candidates will be ranked according to the total score, determined by the sum of the obtained scores.
The three best candidates may be called to an interview also classified from 0 to 20, the final ranking being obtained by the average of the curricular classification and the interview classification. The scholarship may not be awarded if applications are not suitable.
