Offer Description

Project title: molecular mechanisms induced by in vivo reprogramming during brain development

Acronym:REPRODEV

Area of knowledge: life sciences

Research project:

The neocortex is the most evolutionarily region of the brain and the source of high cognitive skills such as language. During development, two coordinated events shape its morphology, leading to the cortex’s columnar and layered structure: the proliferation of neuronal progenitors and cortical migration.  We have developed a novel method to increase neurogenesis during development through in vivo reprogramming. This leads to cortical expansion and correlates with improved cognitive skills in adult mice. The present project aims to unravel the molecular mechanisms activated during this process. We will employ a multidisciplinary approach, encompassing cell-based assays, profiling experiments, and the use of conditional genetic mouse models. Stays in the labs of collaborators are encouraged to boost scientific experience.

The candidate will join Daniel del Toro's lab, which is comprised of three PhD students, a Master’s intern, and is supported by one technician, along with rotating students. The lab is situated in the Biomedicine Department at the Faculty of Medicine (Campus Clinic) of the University of Barcelona.
