Offer Description

Job description

We are looking for two research engineers to work at the intersection between database management systems and modern graph Machine Learning. You will help us design and implement the prototype of the world's first graph database that treats incompleteness as a first-class citizen.

Incompleteness and sparsity emerge as inherent traits when managing Knowledge Graphs. Natural graphs are missing connections and properties. Yet, modern software systems continue to perceive such incompleteness as a flaw or a mistake, inadvertently overlooking the potential insights it conceals.

Another prevalent challenge in querying massive graph datasets is the increasing query complexity, which leads to high execution times. Despite the immense computing power available, even simple traversal queries could stretch on for hours or, in some cases, days.

In this project, you will get the chance to contribute to Orb DB, a novel graph database that provides fast answers to deep questions on incomplete Knowledge Graphs. Orb DB is powered by recent advances in Graph Neural Networks and Graph Representation Learning to offer

approximated results to complex queries. Additionally, Orb DB is designed to enable trustworthy predictions, offering end-users control over the uncertainty of the predicted query.

As a research engineer within our team, you will assist our research group in developing and investigating new graph database architecture concepts. Possible tasks include:

  • Implementing components of the middleware database system.
  • Integrating state-of-the-art Graph Machine Learning methods into database operators.
  • Developing uncertainty quantification methods for query executions backed by embedding-based inferences.

What we offer

  • A position at a leading technical university that generates knowledge and skills for a sustainable future.
  • Engaged and ambitious colleagues along with a creative, international and dynamic working environment
  • Work in Stockholm, in close proximity to nature
  • Help to relocate and get settled in Sweden and at KTH.
  • A position giving you the unique opportunity to work on cutting edge technology with important applications in fields such as healthcare, smart city planning, or finance.
