Offer Description
Research Assistant position in the area of XR immersive communication. In particular, the selected candidate will perform research on XR streaming over Wi-Fi networks with the goal of jointly optimising the XR content generation, delivery, data transport and Wi-Fi operation.
The selected candidate will join the Wireless Networking (WN) group in the Department of Communication and Information Technologies, at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The WN group performs excellent research in the areas of wireless networks and performance evaluation, with emphasis on Wi-Fi technologies, and Machine Learning-based adaptive systems. The candidate will also work closely with top-level international companies and Universities in the field of XR and telecommunications.
Along with other members of the WN group, and of DTIC, it is expected that the work done by the selected candidate will contribute to the development of next-generation XR immersive systems, and to shape future Wi-Fi 7 and 8 evolution.
Tasks to be performed:
- Perform simulations to study the performance of XR applications over Wi-Fi 7.
- Write reports detailing the obtained results, and collaborate in the writing of research papers.
- Participation in project meetings, deliverable writing and presentation of results to the consortium.
All tasks to perform are part of Work Package 2, Task 2.4 (Data Exchange and Distribution Protocols).
The duration of these tasks is estimated for a period of 2 months.
Dedication and working hours: Part time (30h/week)
Planned remuneration approx: 23.980,90 € gross per year

- Engineering degree in networking related fields (telecommunications, electrical, electronic and industrial engineering, or computer science). If not completed, in the last stages, i.e., doing the final project.
- Wide knowledge on wireless networking in general, and Wi-Fi in particular.
- Experience using simulation-experimentation for research in the areas of real-time communications over Internet, and wireless networks.
- Proven expertise on performance evaluation techniques, analysis, simulation and experimentation.
To be evaluated:
- Background and expertise in the use of Machine Learning techniques will be positively evaluated.
The expected start date is January 15th, 2024, the job is in Barcelona, and Nie and a work permit is required.
Additional Information
Selection criteria: The selection of the candidates will be made through evaluation of the curriculum and, where appropriate, with the carrying out a test and/or interview. Valuation will be as follows:
- Academic Training (0-20 points).
- Professional experience and Adequacy to the proposed profile (0-60 points).
- Other merits (0-20 points). Background and expertise in the use of Machine Learning techniques will be positively evaluated.
The minimum score to pass the selection process is 85 points. The candidate with the highest score in the selection process will be offered the job.
