Offer Description
Join the forefront of biomedical research with BE-LIGHT, an MSCA doctoral network with the aim of improving biomedical diagnosis through light-based technologies and artificial intelligence.
BE-LIGHT brings together Europe's leading experts in photonic techniques and machine learning algorithms from 7 top academic institutions and 3 internationally recognized hospitals: Max-Planck-Institut für Dynamik und Selbstorganisation (MPI), Universitat Zurich (UZH), Georg-August-Universitat Gottingen Stiftung Offentlichen Rechts (UGOE), Uniwersytet Mikolaja Kopernika w Toruniu (NCU), Politechnika Gdanska (PG), Sorbonne Université (SU), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Instituto de Microcirugía Ocular (IMO), Universitaetsmedizin Goettingen - Georg-August-Universitaet Goettingen - Stiftung Oeffentlichen Rechts (UMG) and Fundació Sant Joan de Déu (FSJD).
As a researcher, you will have the unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and receive top-level training in photonic technologies, artificial intelligence, and computational imaging.
A close-to-the-clinic approach will allow you to advance the field of biomedicine, with the ultimate goal of improving the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of diseases in 3 main research areas: visual health, cardiovascular health and analysis of cells and tissues using super-resolution microscopy.
There will be 11 Ph.D. positions open for application offering you the opportunity to receive top level training in the following photonic techniques: multispectral imaging, eye-tracking, optical coherence tomography, multispectral optoacoustic tomography, super-resolution microscopy and optogenetics. Additionally, the training program will be enriched with education in artificial intelligence, computational imaging, and modelling.
MSCA Ph.D. position: Optical risk stratification in carotid artery stenosis by multispectral optoacoustic tomography – open position
In this position you will have the opportunity to develop deep learning (DL) based methods for quantified image acquisition and analysis in clinical multispectral optoacoustic (MSOT) imaging and apply those methods to identify carotid artery stenosis at risk in atherosclerotic patients. We will devise DL techniques to automatically segment the human carotid artery and surrounding tissues and develop algorithms for artifact removal, image quality enhancement and accurate spectral unmixing, thus facilitating extraction of quantitative disease biomarkers from readings of tissue oxygenation and lipid content.
