Offer Description
Tasks to be performed:
The research assistant will join a multidisciplinary project team led by Nuria Sebastian, director of the Speech Acquisition and Perception lab, https://www.upf.edu/web/sap, Center for Brain and Cognition, https://www.upf.edu/web/cbc, Pompeu Fabra Univerisity. The project aims at understanding how exposure to language uniquely shapes how humans process speech. The project bridges two different lines of research: Neural Models of Language Entrainment and Psycholinguistic models of the perception of prosody. The project explores the research questions:
Q1. How does language-specific sensitivity to prosodic knowledge emerge? The ITL law.
Q2. How does articulatory/motor information affect entrainment? Processing of audiovisual speech.
The Research Assistant will support recruiting infants.
Tasks:
The research assistant will:
- Call the families in our database to participate in our studies (face-to-face and online);
- Schedule the appointments;
- Send appointment confirmation email with all pertinent information;
- Manage the free taxi or parking service for families participating in our studies;
- Weekly report of the families cited for each study;
- Training for new incorporations.
Dedication and working hours: Part time (25h/week)
Planned remuneration approx: 19.887,06 € gross per year

- Experience recruiting families for infant/children studies using a database or similar;
- Experience scheduling appointments;
- Catalan and Spanish native;
- Mid-level English spoken;
- Experience in a cognitive neuroscience laboratory (preferably speech acquisition and perception);
- Batxillerat or equivalent;
- Have Spanish nationality, be a national of one of the Member States of the European Union. If you have non-EU nationality, you need a work permit to be hired on January 1, 2024.
The expected start date is January 1st, 2024, the job is in Barcelona.
Additional Information
Selection criteria: The selection of the candidates will be made through evaluation of the curriculum and, where appropriate, with the carrying out a test and/or interview. Valuation will be as follows:
- Academic Training (0-15 points).
- Professional experience and Adequacy to the proposed profile (0-70 points): Previous experience in a cognitive neuroscience Babylab lab.
- Other merits (0-15 points): Other EU languages.
The minimum score to pass the selection process is 70 points. The candidate with the highest score in the selection process will be offered the job and in case of resignation, the position will be awarded to the next person in order of score obtained, as long as the established minimum score has been passed.
