Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences was established in 2005. The School’s vision is to become a leading medical school in Asia, as measured by the quality and impact of its teaching and research, and, through these, to engage with and serve the community. The School offers the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine, Bachelor of Human Nutrition, Bachelor of Psychology and Business, Bachelor of Psychology, Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours), Master of Professional Counselling, Master of Biomedical Science and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs. 

Delivery of the medicine program is spread over several locations with the first two years being taught at the Monash University Malaysia at Main Campus in Bandar Sunway, Selangor while the subsequent three years being taught at the Clinical School in Johor Bahru.

Department of Psychology

Teaching in psychology at Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia, commenced in 2007 with the establishment of the Discipline of Psychology, coinciding with the introduction of the Bachelor of Psychological Science and Business program (now known as Bachelor of Psychology and Business). In 2011, the introduction of an Honours degree in Psychological Science (now known as Bachelor of Psychology (Honours)) expanded the academic offerings. The Discipline of Psychology was subsequently elevated to the Department of Psychology in 2015, coinciding with the launch of two new programs: Bachelor of Psychological Science (now known as Bachelor of Psychology) and Master of Professional Counselling.

The department boasts excellent research facilities in areas such as cognitive neuroscience, clinical/counselling psychology, and social and cross-cultural psychology. Situated at the main campus of Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia in Bandar Sunway, Selangor Darul Ehsan, the Department continues to evolve and thrive.

Position purpose

A Level B academic is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the university and to carry out activities to maintain and develop her/his scholarly, research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline.

This position is based at Main Campus, Bandar Sunway.

The appointee will contribute to teaching in the undergraduate psychology courses.  In addition, the appointee will be expected to undertake supervision of research projects in psychology. The appointee should have a track record of research in an area of psychology relevant to the Department’s research and education. The appointee will also actively contribute toward administrative service and unit coordination within the Department of Psychology.

Reporting Line: The position reports to Professor and Head, Department of Psychology

Key responsibilities

  1. Contribute to curriculum development, innovation, enhancement and quality assurance in the undergraduate and postgraduate units
  2. Deliver innovative and excellent teaching, learning and assessment experiences for undergraduate and postgraduate students
  3. Conduct original research, developing an active record of publication and starting to build a profile of grants and supervision
  4. Participate in collaborations with other universities and with government, industry and/or civil society to drive research impact and educational excellence
  5. Support the management of education, research and/or administration in the School through, for example, participation in committees

Key selection criteria

  1. A doctoral qualification (PhD) or equivalent qualification
  2. Demonstrated ability to teach in a university environment
  3. Demonstrated ability to produce excellent research and supervision of Undergraduate/Honours students
  4. Demonstrated ability to work with partners in universities, government and/or civil society
  5. Demonstrated skills and experience in collaboration and teamwork
