Offer Description
Tasks to be performed:
UPF-GTI (https://www.upf.edu/web/gti) within EMERALD will extend and improve the virtual characters modelling, animation (both procedural and ML based) and rendering undertaken within the SignON project, to cover this use case and extend it to more general types of animations.
Different ingredients of the job are Computer Graphics, especially interactive web based 3D graphics, Machine Learning, procedural CG, virtual characters modelling, animation and rendering, or graph programming.
The job should contribute to the research, development and innovation tasks for developing a web-based system improving and extending the ML based and procedural approaches to skeletal animation derived from SignON, and including, improving and extending these approaches to facial animation.
The specific focus for this position is procedural skeletal animation.
Dedication and working hours: Part time (30h/week)
Planned remuneration approx: 24 TO 26K based on experience and skills.
Financing fund: PREUR02723 - EC - HEu - 101119800 - C4 - EMERALD - Blat, projecte “AI and Process Automation for Sustainable Entertainment and Media”, project that ends the 31/03/2026. EMERALD. This position is funded by the EUROPEAN UNION, Program: Horizon Europe (2021-2027).

- Computer Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience with enlarging and enriching the WebGLStudio (https://webglstudio.org/) editor and development environment, or similar tools, especially with graph programming is very important for a quick integration within the tasks of the project and re-using existing UPF-GTI developments.
- Experience with creating a full system for procedural generation of human animations is essential.
UPF-GTI is looking for candidates that can join the project immediately and become part of it, contributing with productive results in the very short term, without discarding candidates which might join later, if they can contribute with specific expertise in virtual characters.
The expected start date is January 1st, 2024, the job is in Barcelona, and Nie and a work permit is required.

Selection criteria:
The selection of the candidates will be made through evaluation of the curriculum and, where appropriate, with the carrying out a test and/or interview. Valuation will be as follows:
- Academic Training (0-20 points).
- Professional experience and Adequacy to the proposed profile (0-60 points):
- Professional experience.
- For the contribution to the project, it is essential that potential candidates have a reasonably long experience in Computer Graphics, and especially related to interactive web based 3D graphics, including WebGL, shaders programming, and Javascript, with a focus on virtual characters (modelling, animation, rendering).
- For the specific approaches it will be essential as well to have previous experience with Machine Learning, procedural CG and virtual characters
- Other merits (0-20 points). Languages (English, Spanish; Catalan is positively considered). Professional knowledge and skills. Experience working in teams. Communication skills. Motivation for the workplace.
The minimum score to pass the selection process is 80 points. The candidate with the highest score in the selection process will be offered the job and in case of resignation, the position will be awarded to the next person in order of score obtained, as long as the established minimum score has been passed.
