Postdoctoral Research Grant – (BIPD) - 1 vacancy

A call for tenders is open for one Pos-Doc Scholarship within the scope of the project CIDEHUS - Interdisciplinary Centre for History, Culture and Societies with the reference UIDB/00057/2020, financed by national funds through FCT/MCTES, under the following conditions:

Scientific area: Cultural Heritage

Admission requirements:

  1. National, foreign and stateless persons, holders of a Doctor's degree in Heritage/Heritage Studies
  2. Proven research and work experience in at least two of the following areas related to Cultural Heritage:

- heritage and territory; urban heritage;

- religious heritage;

  1. Participation in projects related to the areas of cultural heritage listed above, which must be duly identified.
  2. Mastery of Portuguese and English, spoken and written, which, not being the mother tongue, must be proven by a Certificate;
  3. Availability to take up residence in Portugal.

Preferred requirements:

a) Proven skills in the area of ​​digital technologies applied to heritage;

b) Proven experience in fieldwork related to cultural heritage.

 

The application, in addition to the documentation to be submitted, must be accompanied by a letter of motivation and the presentation of a work project of up to 2000 words in the indicated areas above (heritage and territory; urban heritage; religious heritage) in conjunction with the

CIDEHUS strategic project, designed for three months (with the possibility of renewal until end of 2024).

Regarding the “BIPD” (postdoctoral scholarship), in terms of the requirements to be verified for their attribution (article 7 of the FCT Research Grant Regulation no. 950/2019) the need for a doctoral degree to have been obtained in the 3 years prior to the date of submission of the application to the scholarship and, in terms of its execution, the fact that it can only be renewed for a maximum period of 3 years.

 

Work plan:

Support for the training offer, through teaching, within the scope of Cultural Heritage offered by the University of Évora. Field survey of cultural heritage resources, namely in the southern region of the country, from a comparative perspective.

Support for the organization of scientific and technical meetings that promote and integrate research carried out within the scope of CIDEHUS into international networks. Participation in scientific events of a national and international nature in the field of Cultural Heritage and presentation of results to reference journals for publication.

Applicable legislation and regulations: The granting of the Research Scholarship will be carried out upon the signing of a contract between the University of Évora and the scholarship holder, as set in the template former.fct.pt/apoios/Minuta_Contrato_Bolsa.docx, pursuant to the Research Scholarship Statute (Law No. 40/2004 of August 18 and Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28) and in accordance with the legislation and Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP in force, regulation nº950/2019 of December 16, 2019: https://files.dre.pt/2s/2019/12/241000000/0009100105.pdf and other applicable rules.

Place of work: The work will be developed at CIDEHUS – Interdisciplinary Center for History, Cultures and Societies of the University of Évora, under the scientific guidance of Professors Ana Cardoso de Matos and Antónia Fialho Conde.

Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship will have a duration of 3 months, starting on October of 2023. The scholarship contract may be renewed, up to a maximum limit of 1 year.

Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €1.741,00, according to the table of scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_2023.pdf), payments being made monthly, by check or bank transfer.

Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following, with the respective valuation:

  • Criterion A) - merit of the candidate (curricular evaluation, evaluation of the candidate's academic path, publications) – 50%;
  • Criterion B) - merit of the submitted project – 40%;
  • Criterion C) - Letter of motivation – 10%

The evaluation takes into account the merit of the candidate, the merit of the Project presented and the Letter of Motivation.

Applications considered admissible will be scored on a scale of 0 to 10 in each of the following evaluation criteria:

1) Criterion A - Merit of the Candidate, with a weight of 50%:

- Sub-criterion A1 – Candidate's academic background, which includes the area of ​​study of the

candidate and academic classifications, with a weight of 20%;

- Sub-criterion A2 – Curriculum Vitae, with a weight of 20%;

- Sub-criterion A3 – Publications, with a weight of 10%;

2) Criterion B – Project presented, with a weight of 40%;

3) Criterion C - Letter of motivation - 10%.

For the purpose of deciding on granting the scholarship, candidates will be ordered according to the weighted average of the classification obtained in each of the three criteria, translated by the following formula:

Final Classification =( 50%  ×A+  40% ×B+ 10%× C

For tie-breaking purposes, the ranking of candidates will be based on the ratings assigned to each of the evaluation criteria in the following order of precedence: criterion B, criterion A, criterion C.

2ª vogal – Prof.ª Antónia Fialho Conde;

1 ª vogal suplente – Prof.ª Maria da Luz Sampaio;

2ª vogal suplente – Prof.ª Olga Magalhães.

Advertising/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be publicized, through an ordered list by final gradeposted at Palácio do Vimioso of Universidade de Évora, being all the candidates notified through email.

To ensure the right of prior hearing of interested parties, the Final Classification project will be announced by any written means to all interested parties.

After communicating the provisional list of the results of the evaluation, candidates have a period of 10 working days to express their opinion in a preliminary hearing of interested parties.

Application deadline and submission of applications: The tender is open from July 24, 2023 to August 24. The final results of the contest will be published by September 15, 2023.

Applications must be formalized, obligatorily, by sending a letter of application accompanied by the following documents:

- Detailed Curriculum Vitae (must mention academic degrees, scientific areas and the classifications obtained in the bachelor's, master's, doctorate and later formations), as well as the five publications considered most relevant by the candidate;

- Copies (PDF) of qualification certificates;

- Certificate of proficiency in Portuguese and English (when these are not the languages maternal);

- Letter of interest;

- Research project, written with a maximum of 2000 words, in which you must articulate

the tasks proposed with the CIDEHUS strategic project. For more information about the

- Two letters of recommendation;

- Copy of Citizen Card or Passport;

- Other supporting documents that you consider relevant to the application.

For the purposes of application, the evidence may be replaced by a declaration of honor signed by the candidate, but the failure to demonstrate that evidence, in the contracting phase, possession of the required degree on the deadline for application or the non-presentation of proof of enrollment in the study cycle or non-degree course, for scholarships with this component, imply the cancellation of the candidate's application.

Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require registration by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16 and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25th.
