Offer Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for 50 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellows (PFs) (two levels of experienced researchers) (25 positions available in Call 1) at CÚRAM, SFI Research Centre for Medical Devices. MedTrain+ is an advanced Industry-Academia Training, Career Development, and Mobility Fellowship Programme. Positions are available for 36 months full-time from November 2023 onwards.

CÚRAM MedTrain+ Fellowships are open to experienced researchers of any nationality, resident anywhere in the world (see eligibility criteria in a guide for applicants), seeking a prestigious career development fellowship in medical device research and development based at one of the following host organizations: University of Galway (GALWAY), University College Dublin (UCD), The Royal Collegeof Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI),TrinityCollege Dublin (TCD),University of Limerick (UL),Dublin CityUniversity (DCU),Technological University of the Shannon (TUS),University CollegeCork (UCC),National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT) and Technological University Dublin(TU Dublin).

The projects will encompass the broad area of Medical Device Research and Development, including Biomaterials and Drug Delivery Devices, MedTech AI, Machine Learning, Medical Imaging and Soft Robotics, Immuno Engineering and Education and Public Engagement (EPE) and Science Advocacy Programmes.

The MedTrain+ programme will provide excellent experienced researchers with a research, complementary, and transferable skills training experience of the highest international standards that will help them advance their scientific careers within a chosen sector, academia, industry, or the public sector. Two fellowship levels will be offered to 50 candidates over two calls, ensuring varying depths of experience: Level 1 candidates will have less than four years of experience post PhD; Level 2 candidates will have four or more years of experience post PhD. The MedTrain+ programme will offer incoming fellowships across two calls. The total duration of each fellowship is three years, divided into three phases: the initial phase at the host organisation, the secondment phase in a non-academic sector, and the return phase at the host organisation. We welcome applications from candidates who have had career breaks and are looking to return to a research-based career and from candidates who have had a non-traditional career path, including those who have built up research experience but may not have a PhD.

Essential Criteria:

 

As per the MSCA definition: at the extended submission deadline (for 14th August 2023. at 23.59 UTC):

 

Level 1:

  • Be an experienced researcher – have a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research
  • Comply with the MSCA mobility rule: have not resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Ireland for more than 12 months in the three years immediately prior to the submission deadline. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not
  • The appointed candidate will have 0-4 years of postdoctoral research experience in the relevant CÚRAM research
  • At least one research publication - author in a peer-reviewed

Level 2:

  • Be an experienced researcher – have a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research
  • Comply with the MSCA mobility rule: have not resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Ireland for more than 12 months in the three years immediately prior to the submission deadline. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not
  • The appointed candidate will have more than four years of postdoctoral research experience in the relevant CÚRAM research
  • At least three senior author research publications, evidence of any acquired funding, and evidence of engaging with the scientific community (e.g., conference presentation).

Gross Salary:

Remuneration is in line with EC rules for Marie Skłodowska- Curie COFUND grants

  • Level 1 Payscale: €42,033 to €48,427 per annum pro rata for shorter and/or part-time
  • Level 2 Payscale: €49,790 to €54,153 per annum pro rata for shorter and/or part-time

The range depends on the eligibility of the applicant, such as Mobility allowance and Family allowance. Salaries are subject to taxes and deductions e.g. deduction of PRSI (employee social security), and income taxes. For more information about tax entitlements, please go to htps://www.revenue.ie/

Start date: Positions are available from Nov 2023 onwards.
