Summary
This research project explores how entrepreneurs make decisions under uncertainty, focusing on cognitive flexibility. Combining fMRI, eye-tracking, qualitative interviews, and quantitative surveys, the study aimed to uncover the neural and cognitive processes involved in opportunity recognition and evaluation.
The project will be carried out in a multidisciplinary team developing methods for studying the human brain (MRI, PET), and cognitive neuroscience in collaboration with the research group in entrepreneurship at HEC Liège – The Management school of the University of Liège.
Responsibilities – main function
You will be in charge of recruitment, cognitive assessments and 3T MRI data acquisitions of participants. You will analyse cognitive, fMRI and eye tracking data. You will work in close cooperation with the neuroimaging application team and experts in cognition, and also in collaboration with other PhD students and postdocs. The research will be supervised by Dr Fabienne Collette, in collaboration with Dr Frédéric Ooms.

- Candidate should be skilled, highly motivated, have excellent communication and organizational skills, able to work independently and as part of a team.
- A master's degree in psychology (experimental, cognitive, or neuropsychology), cognitive neuroscience or a related field.
- Excellent writing and communication skills in English. Learning French will be requested from those not mastering the language.
- Strong research skills including experimental designs, programming and statistical analyses.
- Coding skills (e.g., R, Matlab, Python)
- Experience in cognitive neuroscience is highly appreciated.
- Previous experience in eye-tracking and MRI is also appreciated.

Work environment
The GIGA-CRC IVI (https://tinyurl.com/GIGA-CRC-IVI) is a research team including psychologists, neurologists, chemists, physicists and engineers, gathering complementary skills in developing novel technical and methodological tools to better characterise the structure and function of the human brain. Applications and fields of research include many fields of cognitive neuroscience and are centred about healthy cognition and cognitive changes in neurodegenerative diseases.
The team has direct access to research-dedicated equipment, including a PET scanner (ECAT+, Siemens), whole-body MRI scanners (3T Magnetom Prisma and 7T Terra, Siemens), neuro-navigated TMS-EEG, high-density EEG system and a sleep and chronobiology unit with five temperature-controlled, light-calibrated, soundproof bedrooms equipped for EEG recordings.
Contract duration
The project is currently financed for 4 years Contract will start on October 1st 2023 and no later than January 1st 2024. Monthly salary will be provided upon request and follows Belgian regulations.
