Offer Description

Our aim is to elucidate the transitions that occur within a nervous system during its developmental stages. The nervous system of C. elegans presents an ideal model for a comprehensive investigation due to its relatively simple structure, while still undergoing significant postembryonic developmental changes in terms of gene expression, neuronal connections, circuit functionality, and behavioral traits. We are seeking for a highly motivated and talented candidate to pursue a fully-funded PhD position as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network "NERVSPAN" (visit https://www.excitingworms.eu/nervspan/index.php for more details). The NERVSPAN network encompasses 10 European partners, offering you opportunities for collaborative research.

This PhD project will be conducted under the guidance of Patrick Laurent's team in Brussels and will focus on the study of presynaptic function and neuromodulation. Our research approaches encompass genetic techniques, such as CRISPR, biochemistry methods including proximity labeling, and advanced microscopy techniques like photoactivation. We invite applications from candidates holding a Master's degree (or its equivalent) in fields such as biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or related disciplines. We are particularly interested in candidates who are deeply passionate about research and possess excellent analytical and communication skills.

You will have the opportunity to work in a supportive, multidisciplinary, and dynamic research setting. Furthermore, NERVSPAN offer an extensive training program that encompasses workshops, courses, and secondments, all designed to enhance your research capabilities and professional skills. This represents an exceptional opportunity for a talented and ambitious individual to advance their research expertise, acquire international exposure, and boost their career prospects.

Participation in a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Network fosters international collaboration among the 10 partner institutions, exposing doctoral candidates to diverse research environments and cultures. The program offers financial support to cover research and training activities for doctoral candidates, including living allowances, mobility grants, and research-related expenses.

As per MSCA regulations, applicants should not have resided in the country of their prospective host lab for more than 12 months in the three years immediately preceding the Call deadline. To apply, please submit your curriculum vitae, a cover letter detailing your motivations and relevant experiences, and the contact information for two referees to patrick.laurent@ulb.be and denis.dupuy@inserm.fr (Network Coordinator).
