Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in the School of Biological Sciences (Ref.: 520905), to commence as soon as possible for two years, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.
The Integrative Biology and Evolutionary Ecology Research group (iBEER Lab) at the University of Hong Kong is seeking applications for highly motivated postdoctoral fellows with background in analytical/natural products chemistry to work on isolation and chemical characterization saponins, with particular focus in animal systems. The PDF will contribute to ongoing research projects on the evolution and diversity of secondary metabolites and their biosynthesis in marine animals. The successful applicant will be in charge of targeted analyses aiming at detection secondary metabolites in marine organisms, Isolation and structural elucidation of unknown secondary metabolites, Characterization of secondary metabolite biosynthetic pathways, and Genomics driven discovery and characterization of significant bioactive compounds.
Qualifications: At the time of appointment, the successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate (Ph.D.) or equivalent in Biochemistry or a related discipline. The ideal candidate has a background in biochemistry with a broad knowledge in Enzyme biochemistry and pathway elucidation, Metabolomics and Analytical chemistry (LCMS, GCMS and NMR), Biophysical chemistry experiments, Up to gram scale purification of saponins, Quality assessment of saponin upscaling, Knowledge of natural product metabolism. Strong publication record and a proven research background with strong writing ability is desirable.
Funding is available for two years, with the possibility of extension for a third year pending satisfactory performance. The PDF will be based at the School of Biological Sciences and also at the SWIRE Institute of Marine Sciences (SWIMS), HKU.
