Offer Description

Under the Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP, Regulation No. 950/2019, published in Diário da República, 2nd Series, No. 241, of 16 December, of the Regulation of Research Grants of the University of Lisbon, Dispatch No. 6238/2020, published in Diário da República, 2nd Series, no. 113, of 12 June, and of the Statute of the Research Fellowship (EBI), Decree-Law no. 123/2019, published in Diário da República, 1st Series, no. 164, of 28 August, it is made known that a call for the award of 1 (one) Research Grant for PhD students, within the scope of the project 2022.08559.PTDC, titled: “Merging photochemical and asymmetric synthesis to access new chiral aminocyclopentitols”, funded by Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (FCT) is open under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or related areas

Research Grant Duration: The research grant will have a duration of 6 months, eventually renewable, until the end of the project, and expected to begin in july 2023, on an exclusivity regime, in accordance with the terms of the Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.

Work Plan: The objective of the work is performed the synthesis of aminocyclopentitol core via photochemical conversion of pyridinium salts under flow conditions to originate diverse bicyclic vinyl aziridines, and their subsequent use in key asymmetric palladium catalyzed C-C bond formation. Optimization of the reaction conditions for Pd-catalyzed asymmetric alkylation of bicyclic vinyl aziridines with Meldrum acid and their application to a number of carbon-based nucleophiles. Appropriate functional group modification of the thus-obtained enantiomerically enriched adducts from the Pd-AAA to reach the desired ACPs. Additionally, is also envisage other reactions of bicyclic vinyl aziridines using Pd-catalysis.

Workplace and Scientific Guidance: The work will be carried out in the Building A, Bioorganic Chemistry Laboratory at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon, under the supervision of Filipa Alexandra Delgado Siopa, Junior Researcher, at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon.

Formalization of applications: Applications must be sent in non-editable format (PDF), to the email concursos@ff.ulisboa.pt, containing the identification of the above-mentioned notice. Applications in paper format will not be accepted.

Application deadline: The deadline for applications is from June 07th to 22nd June 2023 (10 working days).
