Offer Description

The Instituto de Ciências Sociais of the University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa) opens a call for applications for grant of one (1) Master Scholarship, within the framework of research project “Race Trouble. Decolonizing race and racial inequality in postcolonial Portugal”, funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia through national funds (Reference 2022.04225.PTDC), coordinated by Doctor Sofia Aboim, at ICS-ULisboa.

Under the coordination of the PI of the project, the applicant will carry out the following functions: a) desk research; b) construction of a bibliographical basis; c) conducting in-depth interviews and fieldwork; d) general support to the activities of the research project, including events, dissemination, communications and publications.

Workplace: Instituto de Ciências Sociais of the University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa) 

Scientific supervision: The grantee’s supervision will be provided by Doctor Sofia Aboim, the PI of the research project, and Doctor Filipe Carreira da Silva, the co-PI of the research project. 

Duration of the scholarship: The fellowship will have a duration of 6 months, possibly renewable up to the limits established in article 6 of the FCT Regulations or the Regulations of the University of Lisbon. 

Benefits: 

The value of the scholarship will be € 930.98 euros (nine hundred thirty euros and ninety eight cents), paid monthly by bank transfer.

The grantee may exercise his/her right to social security, by joining the voluntary social insurance scheme, under the terms provided for in the Research Fellowship regulation by the ICS-ULisboa.

Eligibility criteria

Selection methods and their valuation:

The applicable selection methods will be curriculum evaluation and a selection interview.

The selection interview will be held with the three candidates with the best marks in the curricular evaluation, provided they score 4.5 points or more.

The selection of the candidates will be made according to the terms of reference expressed in number 2 of this announcement: a) Curriculum evaluation, in view of the objectives of the project and the specific nature of the research work to be developed, valued from 1 to 10 points (50%); b) Letter of Motivation, referred to in 13.2, paragraph c), valued at 1 to 10 points (20%); d) Other factors considered relevant, namely research and dissemination experience (publications and participation in scientific meetings), valued at 1 to 10 points (10%); e) Selection interview for evaluation of professional and behavioral competencies, valued at 1 to 10 points (20%).

Composition of the Selection Board: Dr. Sofia Aboim (President), Dr. Filipe Carreira da Silva (1st Effective Member, who will replace the President in her absences and impediments), Dr. Pedro Vasconcelos (2nd Effective Member).

Selection process

Documentation to be submitted Applications must be accompanied, under penalty of exclusion, with the following documents. No document, which must be submitted at the time of application, may be presented after the deadline for submission: a) Personal Data Form and Declaration of Consent to Communicate the Results via e-mail (see form attached); b) Detailed and updated Curriculum Vitae; c) Motivation Letter justifying interest in the research project theme and the skills with which you think you can contribute to the project; d) Proof of enrollment in a Master's program in Sociology, Anthropology or similar area; e) Document(s) proving that the applicant meets the conditions required for the type of scholarship, namely qualification certificate(s) of the required academic degree(s), with final average grades, or proof that he/she has already applied for the respective certificate(s); f) If the academic degree of Licenciado/ae, required in the present Announcement as an admission requirement, was obtained abroad, you must submit one of the following documents: - Document proving the granting, by a Portuguese Institution, of the recognition or equivalence or registration of the academic degree; or - Document proving that you have already applied for the recognition of the degree, which application must be submitted by the deadline for receipt of applications, inclusive; - Declaration of honour by the candidate that he will obtain the recognition of the degree until the contract is signed. g) The presentation of the proof of having obtained the academic degree recognition or equivalence or registration is a mandatory condition for signing the contract; h) For academic degrees obtained in foreign countries, which have not yet obtained either the recognition or the equivalence or the registration of the degree, it is necessary to recognize it, under the terms foreseen in Decree Law no. 66/2018, of August 16, combined with Ordinance no. 33/2019, of January 25
