Offer Description

Job Description

Experimental Condensed Matter Physics Lab (Lead PI: Asst. Prof. Denis Bandurin) is seeking a skilled and motivated postdoctoral researcher with a solid background in experimental condensed matter physics. The candidate will explore the physics of novel material platforms such as twist-controlled moiré structures, phase-change materials, topological insulators, two-dimensional superconductors, excitonic insulators, and more, and will participate in the development of practical devices. The work will involve the design and fabrication of devices out of van der Waals heterostructures as well as their exploration using variable-temperature (0.01-350 K) electron transport experiments in the presence of strong magnetic fields and THz radiation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Nanofabrication of devices out of low-dimensional materials and their heterostructures.
  • Carrying out the characterization of the devices through electron transport and photocurrent experiments.
  • Supervising graduate students.
  • Writing manuscripts and grant proposals.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in condensed matter physics, and/or nanoscience.
  • Solid understanding of the physics of low-dimensional systems. Namely:
  • Physics: electron transport, plasmonics, light-matter interaction, or thermal transport
  • Systems: GaAs-based heterostructures, HgTe-based quantum wells, graphene, other 2DEGs, quantum       dots, 2D materials, or nanowires.
  • Experience in cryogenic experiments (quantum transport, strong magnetic fields, light-matter interaction, etc) and/or nanofabrication (e-beam lithography, RIE, thin film deposition, SEM, Raman, AFM, etc.)
  • Experience in photocurrent experiments will be advantageous.
