Offer Description

The Molecular Drug Targeting lab at the University of Vienna, Austria, invites applications for a postdoc position (full time) starting at the earliest possible date. Salary according to Collective Bargaining Agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. B (postdoc), €60,000+ annual salary depending on qualification.
The candidate should have an excellent track record in Cell Biology to work in a multidisciplinary team.

The employment term is limited to 8 months (Karenzvertretung / Maternity leave replacement).

Mission: As of the present day there is no approved, marketed, nanomedicine that specifically targets a defined cell subset to deliver therapeutics. However, with the advent of mRNA technology revolutionizing how patients can be treated in the future, the tremendous impact on human health originating from defined delivery of drugs becomes even more apparent. In this project, the successful applicant will be involved in the development of small molecule-based targeted delivery systems for cell specific targeting. For that, small molecules exposed on nanoparticles are employed for active targeting of receptors present on the targeted cells. Hence, the concept of targeted delivery should be familiar to the applicant. The successful applicant should be familiar with aseptic cell culture techniques, culturing primary cells, design of cell-based assays using flow cytometry and standard imaging techniques. It is a plus if you bring in knowledge on planning and conducting basic animal experiments, histology, and formulation of lipid-based nanoparticles.

What is expected?

  • The candidate is expected to be a motivated team player who fits into a multinational and
  • multidisciplinary research environment.
  • Confidence in spoken and written English is a requirement.
  • Good project- and time management, as well as the ability to keep updated documentation of the
  • project.
  • A background in cell biology with a focus on drug delivery is a prerequisite.
  • Practical experience with HUVEC cells is a plus

We offer:
The “Molecular Drug Targeting” lab is embedded in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The department is a well-equipped research organization, providing stimulating grounds for scientific progress in an international, multidisciplinary research environment. A comprehensive repertoire of instruments (Flow Cytometers, NMR, ITC, FPLC, confocal microscopy, etc.) stands alongside high-profile collaborators in a fruitful research spectrum covering synthetic organic chemistry, biochemistry, glycobiology, nanotechnology, immunology and biophysics.
