Offer Description

School of Design
Wellington

With a legacy of over a century in design education, Massey University's Ngā Pae Māhutonga - the Wellington School of Design - is recognised as an Asia-Pacific leader in higher education for design, producing world-class research and educating practitioners across a broad spectrum of design approaches.

Ngā Pae Māhutonga educates students to be socially and culturally engaged global citizens, contributing to their communities with imaginative, collaborative, and unconventional approaches to some of the most pressing challenges facing the world today.

The School seeks to appoint a full-time permanent teaching-focused Lecturer in the subject area of Fashion Design. For decades, Ngā Pae Māhutonga's Fashion Design programme has cultivated creative and innovative leaders driven to challenge social, political, and ethical agendas to create the future of fashion. Through immersive, studio-based practice students establish unique design languages and develop ideas, fashion communication methods, pattern-making and construction techniques to challenge how fashion is designed, made and worn.

The successful candidate should have a demonstrated track record of professional activity and performance appropriate to the level of appointment, possess competence in multiple modes and mediums of teaching, and be a clear, confident, and skilled classroom presenter. We are, in particular, seeking a candidate with skills in digital design and production software including Adobe software as well as Pad (or equivalent), and Clo3D.

This role has a workload biased towards teaching, and the candidate will be expected to teach across Undergraduate and Postgraduate offerings while demonstrating a commitment to service in the form of administration, committee participation and other different roles and responsibilities within the School of Design as needed.

An open, collaborative approach and willingness to work across areas and departments of the School, college and university is a priority.

All applications should include a full Curriculum Vitae, five sample creative works (which may include: post graduate qualification project work, recent course teaching resources if the candidate has recently taught, commission work, industry projects, etc.), and the names of two referees (with full contact details).

Enquiries may be addressed to Sue Prescott, Subject Leader of Fashion Design, at S.T.Prescott@massey.ac.nz

Please do not email your CV and Cover letters to Sue Prescott. All applications must be made online.
