Offer Description

The position requires advanced academic qualifications (doctorate in early modern history of Austria/the Habsburg Monarchy) and extensive relevant personal experience with research projects (including scholarly editions) in the research areas mentioned below. The position of a Senior Scientist is allocated to the Institute of Austrian Historical Research and, in addition to independent research work, also involves participation in the editorial team of the “Mitteilungen des Instituts für Österreichische Geschichtsforschung” and its accompanying publication series.

In addition, areas of work will cover participation in research and teaching in the fields of Austrian History/History of the Habsburg Monarchy; offering classes autonomously in the history programs of Vienna University (BA, MA, and Second School Teaching Certificate, in particular the MA “Auxiliary Sciences and Archival Studies”) as well as general administration duties. Successful candidates will have to be participate in the editorial team’s work on the publications of the Institute of Austrian Historical Research (MIÖG, “Ergänzungsbände”, “Veröffentlichungen …” und “Quelleneditionen des IÖG”): This includes the evaluation of invited and incoming manuscripts, accompanying scientific and editorial supervision of publications and reviews, also digital editions, cooperation with the the publishing house, etc. Furthermore, we expect candidates to participate in the two Faculty’s key research areas “Austria in Its Context” and “Text and Edition”. Tasks also include maintaining contacts with Austrian archives.

We expect candidates to design and implement a long-term project of source studies and edition in the above-mentioned fields, including the Digital Humanities. Extensive knowledge and experience in teaching as well as expertise in the independent development and implementation of research projects, preferably in bilateral or international networking, are expected.
