Offer Description
Introduction
Are you a motivated technician in the field of mechanics or electromechanics who is passionate about building, maintaining and testing the complex mechanical systems required to operate accelerators at the high-energy frontier? Take Part!
You will join the Accelerator Systems Department (SY), which is responsible for the beam-related technical systems of the CERN accelerators. The SY teams design, build and operate equipment systems in all CERN accelerators, and are engaged in ambitious forward-looking R&D programmes.
The position will be in the Mechanics and Logistics Section of the Beam Instrumentation Group.
You will take part in designing, manufacturing, installing and commissioning of the beam instrumentation system for the charged particle beams that are operated daily in the CERN accelerator complex.
Functions
Your main task will be to build, test, install and maintain the mechanical systems used to monitor the particle beams throughout the entire CERN accelerator complex.
More specifically, you will:
- Contribute to the production, assembly, testing and installation of mechanical systems for instrumentation used to optimize the performance of the LHC and its injector chain;
- Design, manufacturing and operation of mechanical test benches;
- Participate in fault-finding and corrective interventions;
- Write up detailed test procedure documentation as well as test reports;
- Collaborate with both internal and external partners.

- Education Level
- Bachelor Degree or equivalent
Higher technical diploma or equivalent relevant experience in the field of mechanics or electro-mechanics or a related field.
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience as a technician in the field of mechanics or electro-mechanics;
- Demonstrated experience in the design, production, installation and/or maintenance of mechanical systems.
The following additional experiences would be an asset:
- Experience in the design and operation of high and ultra-high vacuum systems;
- Knowledge and application of engineering ceramics.
Technical competencies:
- Manufacturing of mechanical parts;
- Production of 2D drawings and 3D models: with CAD tools;
- Assembly of mechanical structures and equipment;
