Offer Description

We are studying retinal diseases such as Retinitis pigmentosa, for which there is still no definitive cure. RP is characterized by a high genetic heterogeneity with many causative genes and many known mutations. We have recently generated a zebrafish model of RP caused by mutations in the Impg2 gene and we have preliminary results showing that the loss of Impg2 faithfully mimics the human disease characteristics. The aim of the project is to characterise the molecular mechanisms leading to photoreceptor degeneration in the Impg2 mutant fish line, and to develop novel therapeutic approaches based on high throughput screening of small molecules.
