Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time fixed-term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Bioinformatics within the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Galway.
This position is available immediately until contract end date of Oct 16th 2025, (with possibility of extension).

Job Description:
This post is based in the Ó Broin Lab (linked) which has research interests in the development of infrastructure and algorithms for genomics data science, with a particular focus on cancer genomics. In order to support a number of ongoing projects, we are looking to recruit a bioinformatics software developer with experience in database and web application development. Applications from candidates with experience in developing for AWS are particularly welcome.
Duties:
- Lead the design and development of database and/or web application components of cancer genomics projects.
- Contribute to the dissemination of research in the form of e.g. reports, papers, chapters, book.
- Mentor and assist graduate students.
- Engage in Education and Public Engagement (EPE) activities.
Qualifications/Skills required:
Essential Requirements:
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related discipline with significant informatics content.
- Demonstrable programming skills in, e.g., Python, Java.
- Experience in database design and development (SQL) and/or web application development (Javascript)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience in cloud-based software development (AWS)
- Experience in the development of reproducible scientific workflows (Nextflow) and/or software containers (Docker/Singularity)
- Knowledge of cancer genomics and/or immunology
- Track record of scientific publication and dissemination of results commensurate with career stage
Salary: Postdoctoral Researcher Scale Point 1 to Point 10 (€42,033 to €54,153 per annum pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts) (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply).
