Offer Description

We are opening a two-year part-time position within the frame of the EU-funded HORIZON-2020 project TRUSTING: ‘A trustworthy speech-based AI monitoring system for the prediction of relapse in individuals with schizophrenia’, which will start on 1 July 2023. The project’s aim is to predict relapse in people who have recovered from psychosis through an AI-based speech monitoring system. We offer the exciting opportunity to become part of a well-structured international network comprising leading experts at four main European sites: Groningen, Zürich, Tromsoe, and Barcelona. The candidate will be associated to the Barcelona end of the project (PI: Wolfram Hinzen) and join the GraC lab (www.upf.edu/web/grac), a highly interdisciplinary environment dedicated to the study of language function in mental illness. The lab is based at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona (www.upf.edu) at the Poblenou campus. The main language of the lab and the project is English.

The appointee should be an early-stage researcher with 1-4 years of research experience and practical expertise in computational linguistics, specifically in artificial neural language models such as BERT. You will:

  • Be responsible for data management and curation of project speech data;
  • Perform NLP analyses and research;
  • Organize the Barcelona work package on a day-to-day level;
  • Liaise with other project sites;
  • Participate in high-level publications.

This is intended as 50% part-time position, but the exact dedication of hours between 17,5 and 32,5 hours can be negotiated with the PI. There is an option, which we encourage, of pursuing a PhD with an independent research project alongside this position. Please direct all prior inquiries to the PI at wolfram.hinzen@upf.edu
