The Biomedical Electronics Research Group (http://berg.upf.edu) at Universitat Pompeu Fabra seeks applications from talented students interested in pursuing a PhD on the use of electric fields for treating cancer.
You will participate in a number of biomedical engineering studies focused on understanding and applying a novel tumor treatment modality based on the electroporation phenomenon. You will conceive and carry out in silico, in vitro, and in vivo assays in close collaboration with life sciences researchers. Your studies will typically combine in silico modeling and in vitro or in vivo assays. You will participate in international meetings and you will report your results in scientific journals.
Your profile:
- You can enroll a PhD program in Spain (you have a MSc degree).
- You have a BSc or MSc in engineering or physics. Biomedical engineers are particularly encouraged to apply. If you do not have a BSc in biomedical engineering, you have a MSc in biomedical engineering or some sort of background in biology and medicine.
- You are genuinely interested in science.
- You are willing to develop skills as needed to complete challenging projects.
- You are able to communicate well and work closely with other team members. You are fluent in English, both spoken and written.
- You have strong analytical and problem solving skills, and independent decision-making abilities. Both independent and team-oriented work will be required.
- Key competences: wet-lab skills (e.g., cell cultures), image processing, microscopy, instrumentation systems, MATLAB, and numerical methods (COMSOL Multiphysics).
Career stage: early stage researcher or 0-4 yrs.
This PhD scholarship (“Teaching PRC”) will be partially supported by the Department of Information and Communication Technologies (DTIC). Its benefits and conditions are available at: https://www.upf.edu/web/etic/predoctoral-research-contracts. Gross monthly salary: 1500€. (To increase to 1900€ during the fourth year of the PhD.)
Funds from BERG and from Department of Information and Communication Technologies (DTIC) of UPF.
