2024 European elections - Make your voice heard

2024 European elections

The next European elections will take place 6–9 June 2024. Save the date!

Why vote?

Because you can choose who takes decisions on important issues that concern you – like climate change, jobs and the protection of your rights and freedoms.

Who can vote?

In most EU countries you have to be 18 to vote, but if you live in Austria, Belgium, Germany or Malta, the voting age is 16 – while in Greece it’s 17. Voting is compulsory in Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece and Luxembourg if you are registered to vote. If you live in a different EU country to your country of origin, in most cases you can choose which one to vote in.

Who are you voting for?

The candidate who you wish to represent you in the European Parliament.

The Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) defend your interests when making EU laws together with the other EU institutions.

Connect with decision makers

Through the EU Youth Dialogue you can help drive forward the 11 European youth goals developed by over 50 000 young people. One of the easiest ways to get involved is through your country’s national working group.

Take the initiative

The European Citizens’ Initiative is your chance to dream big. Gather 1 million signatures and your proposal for a new law may become a reality! Even if you don’t hit the target number, your idea might still sway policymakers. The minimum age to support an initiative ranges from 16 to 18, depending on the country.
