Postdoctoral position at the Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Genome Biology - Kazimierz, Poland


Competitive selection process for the post of an assistant (post-doc) at the Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Genome Biology. Application submission deadline is October 5, 2022.

The Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Genome Biology will hire a research assistant (post-doc) interested in conducting research within the project "Functional roles of somatic piRNAs and their evolution" funded by the the Polish National Science Center.

The goal of the project is to understand the role of somatic piRNAs as regulators of gene expression based on an insect model. The person selected for the position, will carry out the experimental part of the project including, but not limited to, preparation of RNA libraries for next generation sequencing and gene silencing experiments (dsRNA or CRISPR/Cas9). In addition, the assistant will be involved in: grant and scientific publications preparation, supervision of students and management of laboratory resources.

The job offer is for a fixed-term (3 years) employment. Preferred start time – April 2022 (negotiable). 

The competitive selection process is open for all individuals, who meet the requirements set out in Articles 113 and 116.2.4) of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science, and who meet the following eligibility criteria according to § 166 of the Statute of the Jagiellonian University:

  1. Holding at least a Master’s degree, Master of Science degree or an equivalent. 
  2. Exhibiting aptitude for research work.
  3. Have relevant scientific achievements.

Additional requirements include:

  1. Good communication skills in English(written and spoken).
  2. Experience in molecular biology techniques (especially preparation of RNA libraries for next generation sequencing, RT-qPCR).
  3. Experience in working with insects/non-model organisms.
