The Functional Nanosystems Research Line of IIT in Genoa (https://www.iit.it/research/lines/functional-nanosystems) is seeking a highly motivated and talented candidate in the fields of chemistry, physics and material science. The research topic targets the study of hybrid low-dimensional material systems in which light energy is permanently stored and released on demand or directly converted into useful energy. Towards this aim the hired postdoc is expected to carry out the synthesis of disparate and hybrid nanostructures based on inks of polymers, transition metal dichalcodenides (TMDCs), large molecules, graphene quantum dots or colloidal nanocrystals. By developing hybrid materials systems we target to add functionality to the nanosystem with the aim to enhance energy conversion and/or storage in the two sub compartments. Fundamental understanding of the hybrid interactions to improve coupling between the subunits is extracted by a symbiotic control over structur, morphology, optical and optoelectronic properties.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in the synthesis and processing of nanomaterials and their material characterization, displays fundamental skills in the optical spectroscopy, including microscopy and steady state and ultrafast spectroscopy, has experience with electrochemical or photochemical methods, and is interested in developing and characterizing new devices.

This research position is part of the ERC Starting Grant Light-DYNAMO (Light-driven nanocrystals TMDC capacitors, Grant Agreement n°850875).

The highly interdisciplinary research environment at IIT provides access to state-of-the-art wet labs, electron microscopy facility, materials characterization facility, clean room facility and high standard optoelectronics labs.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related subject. Fluency in English is essential. The successful candidate should have good practice with teamwork, group learning processes and a problem-solving attitude.
