YOUR TASKS

  • At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in agrifood-economics.

  • Involvement and follow-up ongoing projects

  • Supervise several PhD students

  • Involved in educational tasks (incl. supervision msc thesis students)

  • Assist in proposal writing

  • Contribute to the main activities (incl. academic services) of the division

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You hold a thesis-based doctorate in agricultural and food economics or similar (obtained max. 6 years ago. This term of 6 years is determined by the date written on the above-mentioned required diploma).

We are looking for a post-doctoral agri-food economist with a strong background in marketing and business. This is a full-time position for 2 years. The scientist will work in the division of Prof. Xavier Gellynck and Prof. Hans De Steur. This research group is specialized in agri-food marketing and chain management. The post-doctoral researcher is intended to follow up ongoing projects, supervise several PhD students, assist in proposal writing, and contribute to the main activities of the division.

 

Knowledge/Experience:

  • PhD in agricultural and food economics or similar

  • Strong communication skills (both written and spoken)

  • Track record of scientific research in the targeted research domain, as proven by scientific publications

  • Very good knowledge of English

  • Experience in EU project management

  • Proficiency with statistical software programs (e.g. Stata, R, SPSS, Ngene, …)

  • Experience in supervision of MSc and/or PhD students

  • Experience in proposal writing

  • Active contributions at scientific conferences

  • Ability to ensure that professional ethics are followed in gathering, processing and disseminating research

  • Knowledge about advanced quantitative research methods, incl. experimental design

Recommended:

  • Research experience in agri-food marketing and agribusiness, including research with different stakeholders in the chain

  • International mobility e.g. through research stays in institutes external to the institute in which the candidate obtained his/her highest academic degree.

  • Experience in teaching, incl. positive evaluations or certificates related to educational tasks

  • Experience and interest in research in developing regions.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a contract of indefinite duration with a maximum term of 2 years  

  • Your contract will start on 1/06/2021 at the earliest, but is flexible an can be discussed (1/10/2021 as latest starting date). The degree of Phd should be obtained before the starting date.
