As an Assistant Professor, you will contribute to teaching, research and management tasks. Your main teaching tasks will be in bachelor and master courses related to population and development studies and qualitative methods, and in supervising master and/or bachelor theses. Other teaching tasks could depend on your expertise. To strengthen our team, we are looking for a colleague who is eager to work in an interdisciplinary team that uses qualitative as well as quantitative methods and works on the Global South as well as the Global North. To complement the expertise of our current team, the candidate should contribute to the department's research and teaching with regard to inequality and inequity in the context of population issues, as well as qualitative research methods. The Assistant Professor will invest 60% of his/her time in teaching and management and 40% in research (including PhD supervision).
• has a PhD in population studies, development studies, population geography, public health, or a related field
• has an interest in, and in-depth knowledge of equity in the context of population issues, preferably applying the capability approach
• has experience in applying qualitative research methods (experience in mixed-methods approaches is an advantage)
• has a network of relevant connections and willingness to invest in external relations and participating in external projects, events and presentations, representing the Faculty and the Department
• has publications in international peer-reviewed academic journals
• will develop a research agenda consistent with the Faculty’s research focus and will supervise PhD students
• is in the possession of a University Teaching Qualification or is prepared to acquire this qualification within a reasonable timeframe
• has experience in teaching on thematic topics, such as on migration, fertility, mortality, health, place, urbanization, food security, concepts of health, wellbeing & place, health equity, capability approach
• is aware of and willing to use the latest innovations in teaching techniques
• is willing to participate in appropriate Faculty committees and/or other management tasks
• is fluent in English and has knowledge of or is willing to learn Dutch (to at least CEFR B2 level – for reading and listening).
