EURAXESS LAC proudly announces its collaboration with the organisers of Falling Walls Labs in Latin America. The supported winners will be awarded an additional EURAXESS LAC prize!

The Falling Walls Lab (FWL) is an international forum for the next generation of outstanding innovators and creative thinkers. Its aim is to promote exceptional ideas and to connect promising scientists and entrepreneurs from all fields on a global level. Participants get the opportunity to present their research work, business model, or initiative to peers, a high-calibre jury made up of experts from academia and business, and the general public - in 3 minutes each.

Who may apply?

Outstanding scholars, researchers, scientists, entrepreneurs, young professionals, and innovators who are at least 18 years old. Candidates must fulfil at least one of the following formal requirements:

  • You are currently enrolled in a LAC University (in the case of the FWL in Chile, a Chilean University, in the case of Brazil, a Brazilian university)

  • You are currently a postdoc

  • You received a Bachelor’s degree no more than 10 years ago

  • You received a Master’s degree no more than 7 years ago

  • You received a PhD no more than 5 years ago

If you have already participated in a Falling Walls Lab (FWL) as a presenter, you are no longer eligible to apply.

Applications must be submitted in English.


The author of the best research project, business plan or social initiative is guaranteed a place at the global Falling Walls Lab Finale (8 November 2022) in Berlin, where he or she will compete to become the Breakthrough Winner of the Year in the Emerging Talents category of Falling Walls.

In addition, EURAXESS Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) will provide a high-quality online science communication training to the winners of the Falling Walls Labs 2022 it supports in LAC. The training will focus on equipping the winner with essential communication skills that are directly applicable to effectively presenting their innovative ideas to an international jury composed of stakeholders from different backgrounds.

This one to one coaching will consist of in-depth tailored support & feedback to each candidate, building confidence and competence in presenting their project/science and for their continuing career/personal/business development.
After the finals, they will be put in contact with the international trainer who will share a 60-minute recorded training and other resources to prepare for an individual coaching session of up to 90 minutes to be provided in English.

“EURAXESS – Researchers in Motion” is a European Commission initiative focused on researcher mobility and career development and aimed at strengthening scientific collaboration between Europe and the rest of the world. EURAXESS LAC supports researchers from the region interested in a research stay in Europe and in collaborating with European scientists in all areas of knowledge. All services are free of charge.

Falling Walls Lab in Peru

The application process is closed. The finals took place on the 3rd of June as a hybrid event. The physical event was hosted by the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) in Lima, Peru.

The event was organized by DAAD Colombia and supported by the German Embassy, PUCP and EURAXESS LAC.

Falling Walls Lab in Chile

The winner of the local Falling Walls Lab is Jaime Celedón Vilches, from Universidad de Santiago de Chile. The finals took place on 29 June, at PUCV (Centro de Estudios Avanzados y Extensión – PUCV)

Falling Walls Lab in Brazil

Brazilians from all of the country's regions and from all areas of knowledge are invited to send their candidacies until 31 July. Although the contest is scheduled to take place on 8 September, in Porto Alegre, the participants selected for the final presentation, depending on the region of Brazil from which they come, may receive support for travel and accommodation expenses. From those registered, 15 projects will be selected to make a three-minute pitch, in which criteria such as innovation, impact and structure will be evaluated. The presentations will take place at Tecnopuc, the scientific and technological park of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.

Falling Walls Lab in Mexico

The call to apply to this local FWL is open. Mexican students, entrepreneurs, early-career researchers and academics of all disciplines can apply until the 31st of July. The finals will take place on the 22nd of August at the auditorium of the Goethe-Institut in Mexico City, Mexico.

The event is organized and supported by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), German Embassy in Mexico City, Goethe-Institut Mexiko, EURAXESS LAC and the German Centre Mexico.

Falling Walls Lab in Bolivia

The call to apply to this local FWL is open. Bolivians and other nationalities (students, entrepreneurs, early-career researchers and academics of all disciplines) can apply until the 31st of July. The finals will take place on the 27th of August at the Universidad Catolica Boliviana San Pablo, Bolivia and online.

The event is organized and supported by Federal Foreign Office of Germany, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), German Embassy La Paz, Universidad Católica Boliviana “San Pablo”, Hanns Seidel Stiftung Bolivien, AHK Bolivien, Stiftung Verbundenheit/ Junges Netzwerk and EURAXESS LAC.
