A significant contribution to the national database for peatlands,
biodiversity and water management in an agricultural context with a
specific focus on the current condition of farmed peatlands and the
effectiveness of restoration work.
The candidate has to start in Sep 2021. The candidate has
opportunities to attend international conferences and meeting industry
leaders to explore possible commercial applications with benefit to
human health and the environment during two years period.
Student requirements for this project
BSc 2.1 honours or higher in microbiology, biology, environmental
science or related subject (with biology and microbiology as a major
course component)
· The successful candidate will be highly skilled and motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team;
· The successful candidate will have hands on experience in a laboratory.
· Experience in media preparation, isolation techniques (enrichment and enumeration) and good aseptic technique is desirable.
· The successful candidate will have appropriate report writing
skills and possess computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel and
PowerPoint).
Full clean driving license is essential; The successful candidate
will work between the field studies sites (Midlands) and the pathogen
lab in the Environmental Sustainability & Health Institute (ESHI) in
Grangegorman, Dublin 7.
