Grants in Practice 2017
This was the second edition of our Grants In Practice (GIP) series, after a trial event in 2016 which provided a broad overview of the ERC, MSCA IF and RISE, and Japanese Kakenhi grants systems. This event series aiming at improving the level of Japan-based researchers in drafting grant proposals, we focused this year on two scpecific grant schemes: the European Research Council (ERC) grants, and the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions Individual Fellowships (MSCA IF), both for individual researchers looking for their next career move.
We received the kind help of two professional trainers who came to Japan especially for the occasion: Katja Wirth from EUresearch, Switzwerland, for ERC; and Pierantonios Papazoglou, Cyprus Institute, Cyprus, for MSCA IF. Each of them provided to the 80+ participants a full 4-hour training on how to draft successful proposals, including crucial hints & tips, and exercices from the evaluators' point of view.
Japanese grantees and alumni also participated by giving the audience a feedback on their current or past experiences with the grants.
In order for researchers preparing their proposals in 2017 (ERC Starting grant deadline: 17 October, Synergy grant deadline: 14 November; MSCA IF deadline: 14 September) or in following years to benefit from this training as well, we've made available all the presentation files, as well as the video recordings of the training sessions on our GIP 2017 event website:
