The Kobe University Jean Monnet CoE - together with EURAXESS Japan and EUIJ Kansai, with the support of Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture and the Embassy of Spain in Tokyo -, will host a symposium to showcase the latest trend of smart cities in the EU and Japan.

Experts as well as practitioners from the sister cities Barcelona and Kobe - which are one of the world’s leading smart cites -, will share best practices and explore the future directions and possible collaboration in this field between the EU and Japan.

Kobe University Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence

 

The main objective of Kobe University's new Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (CoE) "Consolidation of the Kobe Academic Base for EU Studies (Agreement No. 2018-1646/001-001)" is to enhance the understanding of today's EU at Kobe University as well as at regional and national level by using both existing and innovative means in order to target a more diverse and larger audience among students and civil society.

 

 

EURAXESS Japan

 

EURAXESS Japan is an organization under the European Commission that aims to connect researchers, academia, industries and local governments in its service of science, and provides information on research funds, careers, mobility and collaboration to the wider public.

 

 

EUIJ Kansai

 

The EUIJ-Kansai, the consortium formed by 3 universities in Kobe (co-ordinating university), Kwansei Gakuin and Osaka, was established on 1st April 2005 with the financial support from the European Commission, the executive branch of the EU, in order to contribute to strengthening ties between Japan and the EU by promoting educational and academic interactions, enhancing public relations and disseminating information.

 

 

Kobe-Barcelona Sister Cities

 

Kobe and Barcelona signed an agreement to become sister cities in 1993 since they share characteristics such as population size and being port cities. In 2016-2020, Kobe worked together with Barcelona, which is a leading city for open data utilization and open government, towards open data visualization by holding workshops and study tours called “WORLD DATA VIZ CHALLENGE.”
