Bolsa de Investigação - Geometrix_06/2021 in Portugal

A tender is now open for the attribution of a Research Grant (BI) under the Geometrix thematic line

of the Center for Research and Development in Mathematics and

Applications (CIDMA), ref. UIDP/04106/2020, with the financial support

of the Foundation for Science and Technology/MCTES, through national

funds (PIDDAC), under the following conditions:

 

Scientific Area: Mathematics and related areas

 

Admission requirements: Candidates who comply with the provisions of

paragraph a) of number 1 of article 2 of the Research Fellowship

Statute, in the wording given by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of 28th

August, and also number 1 of article 6 and article 9 of the Regulation

of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, namely

PhD students at a higher education institution. Preference will be given

to candidates with a good background in the areas of Algebraic

Structures, Algebra, Geometry and Topology. The following skills will be

valued: initiative, critical thinking, and creativity.

 

Work plan: It is intended that the scholarship holder develop work in one of the following areas:

(1) Algebraic and geometric structures related to gyrogroups and possible applications to physics.

(2) Graph and hypergraph dips on compact surfaces (Map theory and

hypermaps) and possible applications to chemistry and/or engineering.

 

Applicable legislation and regulations: Law No. 40/2004, of 18

August, in its updated version (Scientific Research Fellowship Statute);

Regulation No. 950/2019, of November 29, published in Diário da

República, 2nd Series, No. 241, of December 16 (Research Scholarship

Regulations of FCT, IP); Decree-Law No. 66/2018 of 16 August (Legal

regime for recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas

awarded by foreign higher education institutions).

 

Workplace: The work will be developed within the scope of the CIDMA

research unit of the Mathematics Department of the University of Aveiro,

under the scientific guidance of Professor Domenico Antonino Catalano.

 

Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have a duration of 3

months, starting in September 2021, possibly renewable up to a limit of

one year, on an exclusive basis.

 

Amount of monthly maintenance subsidy: The amount of the grant

corresponds to 1104.64€, according to the table of monthly maintenance

subsidy amounts, set out in Annex I of Regulation No. 950/2019 (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/Tabela_Valores_SMM_LOE_2021.pdf). The period of payment of the scholarship is monthly and through bank deposit, check or other equivalent method.

 

Selection Methods: The evaluation will focus on the merits of the

candidates. The selection methods to be used will be the following:

Curriculum assessment (60%) and interview (40%). The interview will take

place on a date to be defined by the jury and may be in person or

virtual, with candidates being contacted for this purpose. The Selection

Jury reserves the right not to admit any candidate from among those who

present themselves in the competition, in case the desired requirements

are not met (total final classification greater than 50%).

alternate member: Prof. Dra. Ana Breda, CIDMA.

 

Application deadline and form of submission of applications: The

competition is open from June 21st to July 6th, 2021, and only

applications within the established deadline will be accepted.

Applications must be formalized, obligatorily, by sending an application

letter accompanied by the following documents:

Curriculum Vitae, certificate of qualifications and documents proving

experience in the area. You must also indicate the email address to

which, by this indication, you agree to be notified for all purposes

within the scope of this procedure.

Form of advertising/notification of results: The final results of the

evaluation will be published through a list ordered by final

classification, posted in a visible and public place at the University

of Aveiro, and sent to candidates by email, in compliance with the rules

established in Chapter III, section 1, Article 12, of the Research

Grants Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP

(FCT).
