In our second session, which will take place on May 27th, 17:30-19:00 IST, we will focus on, ‘Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’.
Through a curated panel discussion of 3 Swiss experts and 1 Indian expert, the focus will be on exploring the following 5 Sustainable Development Goals:
SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy – renewable and sustainable energy.
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure – sustainable transport, energy storage.
SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities – links the actions of all the other SDGs.
SDG 13: Climate Action – reducing pollution, e-mobility, renewable/ alternative energy sources.
SDG 17: Partnerships for the goals – in the fields of Science and Technology.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted in September 2015 as a part of the resolution, ‘Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’.
The Government of India is strongly committed to the 2030 Agenda, committed to achieve the 17 SDGs and the 169 associated targets, which comprehensively cover social, economic and environmental dimensions of development and focus on ending poverty in all its forms and dimensions.
India being the world’s youngest country and with 1/7th of the world’s population, it needs to engage in education and early action, to create and sustain a long-term momentum that can help achieve its targets. There is a need for a continuous series of action-oriented programmes to empower efforts of change-makers and match bottom-up innovation with organized expertise in a bid to scale up progress and create more meaningful impact.
The Swiss Confederation too considers the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development a unique opportunity to strengthen and to boost sustainable development at all levels: global, regional, national, and subnational. The 2050 Energy Strategy aims to ensure a sufficient, broad-based, reliable, economical and clean energy supply in the country. This has led to Switzerland relying more on renewables and developing technologies which will enable an expedited transition.
At the international level, Switzerland encourages the proliferation of environmental goods and renewable energies in economic and free trade agreements, e.g. by improving market access and fostering private investment. It provides technical assistance and investment to help developing countries produce electricity, heating and cooling in a cleaner, more efficient, more accessible and more affordable manner while bearing in mind economic sustainability.
About the webinar series
