About the Opportunity
The NEWTON Doctoral Network, funded under Horizon Europe through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, is offering 15 fully funded PhD positions across Europe. Coordinated by Iquadrat Informatica SL, this project focuses on building next-generation 6G wireless-optical networks.
The program brings together leading academic and industrial partners across countries such as Spain, Belgium, France, Greece, Denmark, Poland, and the United Kingdom.
Research Focus
The NEWTON project aims to revolutionize communication systems through three major research pillars:
- AI-driven models for advanced 6G access networks
- Scalable interconnection solutions for distributed data centers
- Intelligent resource allocation using AI and automation
Doctoral candidates will work on cutting-edge topics such as:
- Cell-Free (CF) networks and MIMO systems
- Neuromorphic computing and photonic processors
- Open RAN architectures
- Blockchain for network transactions
- AI-based scheduling and resource optimization
Available Positions
The 15 Doctoral Candidate (DC) roles are distributed across multiple institutions and cities, including:
- Barcelona, Patras, Leuven, Athens, Roskilde, Cambridge, and Sophia Antipolis
- Industry collaborations with organizations like NVIDIA
Each candidate will:
- Conduct independent research under expert supervision
- Participate in international secondments (up to 6 months)
- Present work at global conferences
- Contribute to academic publications and collaborations
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Hold (or be close to completing) a Master’s degree in:
- Electrical/Electronics Engineering
- Telecommunications
- Computer Science or related fields
- Have programming skills
- Demonstrate strong English communication skills
- Be willing to work in an international, interdisciplinary environment
Mobility Rule:
- Candidates must not have lived or worked in the host country for more than 12 months in the last 3 years
Salary & Benefits
The program offers competitive MSCA-funded benefits:
- Living allowance: up to €4010/month (country-adjusted)
- Mobility allowance: €710/month
- Family allowance: €660/month (if applicable)
- Full-time employment contract (36 months)
- Enrollment in a PhD program
