Inviting young researchers in the fields of polar, glacier or Himalayan issues to a competition during the National Conference on Polar Sciences on 20-22 August 2019 in Goa.

The Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi and National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) in Goa invites young researchers pursuing research in the field of polar, glacier or Himalayan issues to a competition during the National Conference on Polar Sciences organised by NCPOR 20-22 August 2019, in Goa.

Why the competition

Winner of the competition will get an opportunity to participate in the Arctic Frontiers Emerging Leaders programme which is being organized during the 22-28 January 2020, in Bodø – Lofoten – Tromsø, Norway.

Who can apply

If you are under 35 years, pursuing research on polar, glacier or Himalayan issues and want to learn more about Arctic security, Arctic economy and Arctic environment, Emerging Leaders is an Arctic early carrier and mentoring program in the High North for young scientists and professionals.

About Arctic Frontiers Emerging Leaders

Emerging Leaders invites 30 selected candidates from different countries to participate in a blend of technical, social and cultural events accompanied by mentors from business, politics and academia. The program takes place in the Norwegian Arctic and starts in the city of Bodø, then continues onboard the coastal cruise M/S Hurtigruten to Lofoten and ends in Tromsø, “the gateway to the Arctic”. Selection process

For selection, the interested young researchers in the field of polar, glacier or Himalayan research, shall submit their curriculum vitae’ (not more than 3 pages) and a brief write up (about 300 words) addressing the following two questions:

  • How should we best define Arctic sustainability, potentials and vulnerabilities?
  • What are the suggestions and solutions to Arctic opportunities and challenges?

An Evaluation Committee will evaluate the CVs and write and shortlist 5-6 researchers. The shortlisted researchers will be invited to give a short Ted Talk (presentation) (5 minutes each), during the National Conference on Polar Sciences in Goa, 20-22 August 2019. A Selection Committee will select the two best researchers who will be honoured with the sponsored opportunity to participate in the Arctic Frontiers Emerging Leaders programme.

What does the sponsorship cover

Participation fee

The participation fee (NOK thirty five thousand) covers: Transportation, board, lodging and other arrangements from 22 January 2020 at 4 pm to 28 January 2020 at 12.00 noon. The participation fee also includes entry to the Arctic Frontiers conference on 22-28 January 2020. For more information on 2020 Arctic Frontier visit https://www.arcticfrontiers.com/

It does not include possible participation in the last part of the Arctic Frontiers conference (as well as board and lodging) on 26 – 30 January 2020.

Travel to and from Norway

This will be borne by the Norwegian Embassy, New Delhi.
