VIROINF investigates the interactions between viruses and their hosts, thus contributing to a broader understanding of the ecology and evolution of viruses in the context of their hosts. Through the unique combination of virology and bioinformatics, we expect to better understand, treat and control viral diseases in interaction with the host. VIROINF goes beyond bioinformatics developments as well as the traditional framework of virology research in that all work packages are handled by pairs of researchers, consisting of a virologist and a bioinformatician. In addition, each ESR will work closely together with at least one other project of the other research area.
The project VIROINF will recruit 15 ESRs in fifteen institutes of the eight countries (Germany, France, Switzerland, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Israel) that form the network. In addition, twelve partner institutions (including industry partners) will provide obligatory secondments for the ESRs.
