Registration is now open! 2017 China-EU Conference on Sustainable Urbanisation

EURAXESS China wants to draw the attention of all researchers involved in the field of urbanisation to the 2017 China-EU Conference on Sustainable Urbanisation.

The conference aims to build on and continue the previous achievements of the EU-China Urbanisation Partnership, which was agreed in May 2012 by President Barroso and Premier Li Keqiang. In 2017, we commemorate the five-year anniversary of this Partnership. This first annual conference plays an important role in the implementation of both the Partnership and the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Horizon 2020 Co-Funding Mechanism as a means of facilitating future discussion, collaboration, and mutual learning between countries.

China is in the processes of establishing an Innovation-Driven New Area and the focus of this conference will be on this initiative. The Xiongan New Area will demonstrate how innovative-driven development, prioritising ecological protection and improving people’s well-being, can be introduced. The construction of the Xiongan New Area is of national significance and will support similar initiatives planned for the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, and the Shanghai Pudong New Area. Innovation-driven development in New Areas is an important new area of growth which would benefit greatly from international cooperation to promote the sharing of knowledge and resources to address urban, regional, and global issues such as sustainability, city-to-city connectivity, industry links, and city development.

A brief introduction to the URBAN-EU-CHINA Innovation Platform on Sustainable Urbanisation 关于中欧城市之城市化可持续发展创新平台简介:

In the URBAN-EU-CHINA Innovation Platform on Sustainable Urbanisation, 12 experienced European and Chinese consortium partners from across the sustainable urbanisation value chain join forces to support the European Commission in its aim to make EU-China sustainable urbanisation cooperation more accessible, attractive, and rewarding for a broader set of stakeholders. To accomplish this we organise a coordinated series of actions including: a strategic R&I agenda, scoping and assessment, networking events, peer-to-peer exchanges, bench-marking and monitoring, and joint demonstration projects.

The project was officially approved in January 2017. Then in March of the same year, URBAN-EU-CHINA organised the platform’s Launch Event in Brussels, as well as a dialogue meeting on Industry-City-Science Partnerships for Sustainable Urbanisation, together with DG Research and Innovation. And then in June of the same year, the platform participated in the “3rd EU-China High Level Innovation Cooperation Dialogue” as a pilot project in Brussels.

As URBAN-EU-CHINA Innovation Platform, we will:

1. Promote and develop Joint Policy Strategies for EU-China cooperation on sustainable urbanisation
2. Create a Nursery of Joint Projects, from a broad range of low-threshold to a few high-performance projects
3. Promote Brokerage of City-Industry-Science Partnerships using virtual and face to face meeting places
